MAGICAL PAUSE

While I was recently on vacation overseas, I had an accident and broke my ankle. It required surgery (mind you, it was a handsome French surgeon) and will require another surgery before my cast will come off. I have been not able to work and was very restricted in my mobility.

Upon the initial shock and pain, I was forced to evaluate my attitude and mindset to not sink into a hole of sorrow and self-pity. There were a number of downsides: No income through my massage business for at least six weeks. Not being able to go outside and enjoy social or physical activities. Moving very slowly on crutches through my apartment.

So, what would be useful in turning this into a positive experience, or at least going through this with an optimistic outlook. Rumi says

Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

Gratitude, yes, for what I have in my live. Beautiful friends and family who help me with shopping , cleaning, chats, hugs and lifts to medical appointments. Time to read books and immerse myself in studying the theory of a new modality, Biodynamic Cranio-Sacral Therapy. Taking a bath every day as it is easier than taking a shower. Sitting on my sunny balcony with a coffee. Allowing myself a magical pause.

When you will come back on my massage table, YOU will get your magical pause. For one hour or two, you will feel nothing but caring hands and healing, allowing the parasympathetic nervous system to kick in. The body has an innate cellular intelligence and an amazing ability for self-healing, if we trust it, give it time and take care of it.

My beautiful massage teacher Mette said: It is not the technique of what we do, it is the love and attention that we give another person, that makes a massage special.

With love and respect,

Ulrika
